More about Berxter

Almost every Filipino with an e-mail address knows about Friendster, MySpace and Facebook. These sites are so popular among Pinoys of all ages that one can enter into any Internet cafe and see a number of patrons browsing through any of them. In these online destinations, users exchange messages with family and friends, post in blogs and forums, and check out other friends.

Berxter would like to offer these to you and more. By targetting exclusively at Philippine student organizations, Berxter would like to offer you a home for your orgmates, and interact with other orgs to promote activities, share ideas and expand your network.

Essentially, these are the needs that Berxter would like to address:

  • a way for students to define and redefine themselves, through profile pages
  • the need for autonomy, recognition and achievement, which are essential to the students' sense of self-worth, fulfilled through communities, blogs, and social networks, providing a way to develop and manage a virtual reputation
  • a need to both seek and provide help to others
  • a way for them to find, create and connect with others "just like me" - people who share similar tastes, sensibilities, orientations or interests
  • achieving a real sense of community, requiring long-lasting reciprocal relationships and a mutual commitment to the needs of the community as a whole

Berxter believes that it is the circles formed in school (whether it be high school or college) that continue to be strong later in life. Casual friends and acquaintances formed in Friendster and MySpace come and go, but friendships formed in school, facilitated by online exchanges in Berxter, may last.

It is the Berxter creators' hope that it becomes not only a useful digital tool for growing online communities catered to students, but also an intimate place to form and maintain meaningful relationships online.

Berxter is supported by BNS Hosting, the Philippine Web Hosting Provider.
